DecoArt Americana Acrylics

Hauser Dark Green
Crystal Green
Arbor Green
Emperor’s Gold
Lamp Black
Cadmium Red Light
Napthol Red
Burnt Orange

Base green area with Hauser Dark Green

Sponge on top of this with Crystal Green

Green stripe on box and lid is taped off and painted with Arbor Green 2 coats

Base Fan, small stripe and bottom in with Emperor’s Green, 3-4 coats

Mix Emperor’s Gold with Black, ratio 4:1 pull this color down the fan from the top to the bottom to give it some texture.
Base with Oxblood 3-4 coats
Add Cad. Red Light 2 coats
Add Napthol Red 2 coats

Paint in shadows with Burnt Orange 3 coats
Flower lines are Napa Red plus Lamp Black Ratio; 2:1
Base with Hauser Dark Green 2-3 coats
Add Evergreen 2 coats
Highlight shade with Arbor Green
Veins are done with Arbor Green

Stamens are Lamp Black
Dots are Arbor Green
Center Flower dot is Grape Juice dotted with Titanium White.
Peacock Feathers
Base feather with Black, paint in color areas in the middle
Of the feather with Crystal Green and Ice Blue. Imperial Gold is surrounding these colors and then the rest of the feather is Emperor’s Gold
Center where the feathers meet is Oxblood 2 coats and outlined with Emperor’s Gold

Paint Chinese letters with Lamp Black, outline with Gold
Ceramic Flower
Base with Oxblood Dry brush Empero’s Gold over this and put a dot of Crystal Green in the center

Step-by-Step Instructions
1.    Base bowl with Black
2.    Stipple edge with Emerald Green and then when that is dry stipple over it with Tropic Bay Blue
3.    Transfer Design outlines
White Pot
1.    Solidly base the whole pot in with Putty, then over this paint in 2 coats of Cornsilk Yellow, let dry (this may take 2-4 coats)
2.    Apply a thin layer of my blending medium on the shadow side of the pot.
3.    With a chisel blender dip into the Wisteria, and paint a tiny band down the right side of the pot about ¼ inch wide.
 Blend this color in towards the center of the pot by gently patting or stippling. Then soften the edges Let this dry.
4.    Add some of my blending medium to the left side of the pot and add a tiny line of the shadow color, blend this in toward the center of the pot just a tiny bit.. Dry.
5.    With the black transfer paper apply the pattern on the pots.
6.    Solidly Base the orange areas of the pot with Cinnamon. Dry.
7.    Paint in the highlight on this area with Orange, Tangerine and then Pumpkin over this to create some real good highlights. Do not pull it all the way around the pot where it is in shadow.
8.    Outline the Orange area with the Scrip liner and Black.
9.    Using the same brush paint in the black design.
10.                       Add dots with a stylus using Cinnamon.
11.                       Base the inside of the pot with Wisteria and glaze over this with Shining Feather Soft Glo glaze Sunset Orange.
12.                       Paint the rim using the 20/0 Mini Script with Cornsilk Yellow.
13.                       Paint Bahama Purple on the left inside of the pot where it is in shadow.
14.                       Paint Bahama Purple on the right side of the pot to create a “reflected” light, blend edges.
Base with Cinnamon and Black.
Use a bristle bright brush or a brush you have cut with pinking shears and add the following colors building up the texture and highlight.
Over the Cinnamon add these colors in the order listed.
Over the Black add:
Bahama Purple
Paint in with Spice Tan and then bring Antique White over this
For a highlight.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Solidly base background with mixture of Black and Black Cherry 1:1
  2. Using a sea sponge apply Rhythm and Blue leaving the black mixture showing through here and there.
  3. Transfer design

  1. Base cactus and pottery with Gesso.
  2. Solidly paint in the cactus with Eucalyptus.
  3. Paint shadow areas with Purple.
  4. Highlight float 3 coats of Lemon Grass on right side of cactus
  5. Next apply highlight
  6. Add highlight of two coats of Apple Green over this.
  7. Paint a reflected light on the left side with Bahama Purple.

  1. Solidly base the flowers in with Dark Goldenrod.
  2. Paint shadow areas and centers with Terra Cotta
  3. Highlight float areas in light with Crocus Yellow.
  4. Dots in center are Cornsilk Yellow, applied with a stylus.
  5. Spines are painted on the right side with Dark Goldenrod, and then paint Crocus yellow over this.
  6. Paint the spines on the left side with Bahama Purple.
  7. Dots where the spines come out of, are dotted on with tiny stylus and Black


  1. Solidly base with Brown Iron Oxide
  2. Add Brunt Sienna and then Georgia Clay on top of this for the highlights. Leave some of the under color showing through.
  3. Make sure to bring some ground up around the cactus to “plant” them.
